The Lomography Gallery Store Grand Opening in the Big Apple!

January 2009 was a huge month for Lomography in New York City. The first month of ’09 saw the grand opening of the ultimate Big Apple Lomography destination, the Lomography Gallery Store NYC! There is finally a place in New York where Lomographers can pick up any Lomographic product, or haul away rucksacks full of film before exploring our photogenic city.

On the evening of January 26th, Lomography USA threw a grand-opening shindig of skyscraping proportions. The party was the place to be in NYC that evening, with a long line of LomoLovers stretching down 8th street eager to get in. With the drinks flowing, the music thumping (sorry new neighbors), and hundreds of bodies grinding up against each other, Lomography was here to rock New York. Oh, and to the people taking pictures in our bathroom... we're still waiting for our copies!
The party was packed with so many great friends, including guest photographers, and past Lomo Amigos, Nicky Digital, Gavin Thomas, Keren Fedida, and Dave Ortiz – as well as future Lomo Amigos Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel, who invited their buddy America Ferrera. With nearly 500 guests, a mind-blowing performance by A Hawk and A Hacksaw, a river of Austrian beer and piles of delicious snacks, and the unveiling of “the tower” – a 3-story 360-degree LomoWall comprised of a whopping 35,000 photos submitted by Lomographers from around the world, Lomography had arrived in New York City with style!

The shiny new Lomographic dreamland is a beacon for Lomographers around the world to find all Lomography products and services, to check out a workshop or LomoJourney with fellow analogue BFF’s, or meet-up with friends to swap film and share photos. Featuring everything from A to Z in Lomography’s product line, from cameras, the full line of accessories, bags, books, t-shirts, albums and frames, to deadstock Russian cams, 50+ varieties of film, and everything in between, the Lomography Gallery Store is the first stop on any analogue lover’s itinerary. We can’t wait to share this wonderful new Lomography home with you.

The Future of Lomography in New York!

The future for the Lomography Gallery Store is brighter than 1000 Ringflashes. We have tons of workshops planned (see the February schedule below), another epic party to celebrate the 25th birthday of our beloved LC-A camera in June, and a stop by the Diana World Tour in November that should truly not be missed!

We can’t wait for you to come by to say hello, wet your Lomographic taste-buds with one of our delectable shop-exclusive special edition DianaF+ cameras, hang out for a workshop, or join us for a LomoJourney through Gotham.

And just like our city that never sleeps, we plan to keep you busy with competitions, events, and meet-ups all year long, as the Lomography Gallery Store continues to be the one-stop analogue destination for Lomographers in New York.

We hope to see you in February at one of these workshops:

February 7th 1:00pm – 3:00pm Diana Dialogues
February 18th 7:00pm – 9:00pm Intro to Lomography
February 28th 1:00pm – 3:00pm LC-A+ Workshop

Lomography at the MoMA!

And if opening a new Lomography Gallery Store wasn’t enough, in January we also saw the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) embrace Lomography with massive LomoWalls at 3 different MoMA Design Store locations throughout the city. This could not have happened without the multitudes of amazing Lomographers who have spanned the globe over the years spreading analogue love with their beautiful lomographs, and propelling Lomography into the spotlight of the art world. It’s time for all of you to take a bow.

The Lomography installation at the MoMA Design Bookstore will remain up for a little more time, so check it out while there’s still time:
