ow you remember the Smena 8M, don't |
|
|
you? Sure you do. Original 80s, deadstock, triplet lens gem? Ring any bells? Rediscovered behind a horse’s stable in rural Russia? Yes!
See, there you go!
Well, we’re delighted to introduce the little nephew of the clan, The Smena 35mm. A quirky, little, lightweight plastic chap. Straight out the Lomo St Petersburg’s production house and boasting original Lomo triplet 3 lens. The Smena is a doll in all lights but secretly the 35mm loves nothing more then to be out after dark. The handy hotshoe feature means you can slide on any flash and the night is yours for the snapping! Plus the quintessentially Lomo “B” setting allows you unlimited long exposure control! |

Originally created as a way to make photography accessible to young, hard-working Soviets; cheap, portable and easy-enough-for-your-granny-to-use, the Smena was a hit with cash-strapped Russians back in the day. Luckily for you snap-happy Lomographers, we’ve managed to bag 150 of these deadstock kiddies. Unused and sitting pretty in original packaging, the Smena 35mm is piece of Lomo history!
*(As an additional free bonus, the ‘35’ comes complete with a ‘retro’ nylon camera case. In either bright red or blue with a fetching checked interior – the case takes kitsch to a new level!!! Check it!)

t was recently revealed to us by our all-knowing sources that the word Smena means ‘change of shift’. |

So we have a challenge for you, the Smena and the Night. The moment the day slips into night a powerful change manifests itself……We want you to send us your Smena night galleries. They could be the moment when you are released through the revolving doors of your day job prison and into evening freedom. Or maybe you’re a Nightshift worker…you work while the rest of us play. We want to see the way you spend your hours while the rest of us are sleeping, partying or watching bad television. |

The Smena 35mm is your perfect night-time companion, light and easily slipped into your sack. The Smensky will feel like your new best friend. The Smena 35mm won’t get drunk and vomit on your shoes. You won’t have to push the Smena all the way home in a shopping trolley because they passed out in the toilet. No, no, no. no! You can take the Smena anywhere. Walking the dog, on patrol, for a little swim in your neighbour’s pond, on a blind-date, on the bus, to the 24 hour shop at 2am when you have the munchies …. The Smena 35mm captures the soul and spirit of every nightmove. |

veryone is welcome at Chez Smena! However, as with all good things, they come to an end. (sigh) With only 150 of the time-warp deadstock Smena 35mm in our hands, you will have to be fast and snap one up ‘on the double’. |

With all this talk of the young nephew, we wouldn’t want you to forget Big Uncle Smena 8m. We have just a handful left of these rare Lomo-of-yesteryear jewels. Again, the 8m is the proud owner of a Lomo Triplet 3 lens. The black plastic and metal combo brings an air of sophistication to the Smena 8m. It could be winging its way to you completely untouched and in original Soviet-stylee packaging, complete with instructions and 3
month warranty.
Have a look at the Smena 8m
If the charms of the Smena have so far passed you by….take a little stroll around some of these galleries.

Fuji Neopan 1600/36 B&W
This high-speed jobby won’t allow you to miss a moment of the action. Perfect for spontaneous hand held shots in low lit locations. Full on, beefy grain to give you that ‘noir’ je ne sais quoi.. |

Kodak Elitechrome 100/36 Slide
This one’s a beaut! When processed normally this negative produces super intense and sharp shots. Equally gorgeous when cross-processed – creates deeply saturated, contrasty pics. Nice, nice. |
