Ringflashes were initially conceived as a tool for macro photography. When shooting something up close – like a flower or a penny – photographers needed a highly defined light without directional shadows. By surrounding the lens, a ringflash achieved exactly this. But once you move from these tiny subjects and start shooting close-ups of people, you start to see the Ringflash’s amazing power.
