This was Lomography 2007

The most eager amongst us feel the approach of this yearly closing event as early as September (the first of the legendary –er months). The rest of us bravely abide, at latest when the first new-years resolutions are pledged in late November. Yes, it’s that time of the year again. And before we all pack up and go home to remise about the last 365 days, it is our duty to wrap up this year with some juicy gossip.

Lomographic Events Worldwide

Lomography World Congress London 2007
The fruit of ten years of Lomographic history are presented to the world in what was to be the Lomography event of the decade. The 7th Lomography World Congress London 2007 went down in the height of September. Fame and glory to whom it is due: 100.000 photos and LomoWalls made by hundreds of Lomographers worldwide adorned the very center of London with the LomoWorldWall on Trafalgar Square. The 250 active congress participants produced a collection of 20 thousand photos during the event. A part of these ten-thousands of images can now be viewed in the congress documentation diary: congress.lomography.com/diary

In a worldwide online call via all Lomography websites (May to July 2007), the 1 Million members of the Lomographic community were addressed to submit their images for the LomoWorldWall on Trafalgar Square. The 30.000 image uploads resulted in more than 1000 LomoWall panels, created by individuals from 54 countries.

Over 30 interactive Lomography projects in London and other cities around the world were organized in cooperation with the Lomographic Embassies and cultural institutions. More than 700 individuals (adults and children) participated in the workshops and shooting actions on offer. All resulting images were incorporated into the LomoWorldWall installation.

Additionally to the crowd of usual mortals that fell for the magic of Lomography, the Lomography World Congress London 2007 recruited a premium selection of brand new Lomography artists, including designers Michael Young, Karim Rashid, Wallpaper editor-in-chief Tony Chambers and architect Kengo Kuma, as well as sparking the interest of long-time Lomo Enthusiasts such as designer Rana Salam, Paola Antonelli, curator of the MoMA in New York, and architect Amanda Levete.

The LC-A+ Anniversary
Yet another milestone in Lomographic history; in 2007, the Lomographic Society’s protégé, the LC-A+, was not only honoured with its brand new Chinese counterpart and stunning accessories, it also celebrated its 1 year anniversary! In a celebration frenzy, the participants of the Lomographic World Congress London 2007 gathered on the deck of the HMS President for the final party and the big LC-A+ festivity! Momentarily eternalized in the form of an over dimensional, chocolate covered cake, the edible LC-A+’s existence was only short-lived, and soon a casualty of imprudent and richly deserved gluttony.
