Facing the pristine “mirror lake” in Kyoto, the Kinkakuji Golden Pavilion temple is one of the most stunning sights in Japan. Originally built in 1397, the second and third floor of this beauty are covered in pure gold leaf, which brilliantly shines across all four seasons. Over the years it’s been burned and re-built on several occasions – with each reconstruction more ambitious and beautiful than the last.
In commemoration of this majestic structure, we hereby present the limited edition Kinkakuji Golden Yasuhara T981. Just like the original T981, the Kinkakuji edition accepts all Leica screwmount lenses, features a built-in lightmeter with LED light-guided exposure, and offers full manual control over shutter and aperture. Its devastating 50/2.8 gold-bodied lens has a collapsible body for compact and easy transport. Only 50 units of the Kinkakuji Golden T981 will be produced, and they are available exclusively at Lomography.com.
Each camera is meticulously assembled by hand according to Mr. Yasuhara’s strict engineering and design. Production is done at the Phenix factory – China’s premier manufacturer for high-end photographic equipment. Here’s a quick summary of its critical stats:
