NEW RUMBLE :: ANALOG ONLY

Dear Friends,

This is the big one! We’ve had Rumbles here and there in the past, but we are going to say it loud and clear: this is by far the most crucial rumble to date, and we absolutely need your full and undivided attention! The prestigious Photokina show – the largest photographic and imaging trade convention in the world – will come to Cologne, Germany this coming September. As world’s most diverse, vivid, talented, and hyperactive analog community – we have been asked to articulate and present “The Future of Analog Photography in the Digital Age” via a slamming and enormous Lomographic exhibition. We’re talking over 200 square meters of juicy, honest-to-god analog magic!

That’s where YOU come in!

This installation will come straight from the Lomographers themselves – and the fruit of your analog photographic labors will go on to dazzle a huge international crew of photographers, magazine editors, gallery directors, publishers, and industry folks. Make no mistake, this is our opportunity – as Lomographers – to show the full extent of our ingenuity, creativity, and relentlessly-snapping dedication to the analog cause. And it won’t stop there – we’ve got plans in work to publish these exhibition photos in a book of the same name, to be released in Spring 2007!

We are waiting desperately for the following from you:
1. Upload images that represent the unique and wonderful nature of analog photography. Show us pictures that only an analog camera can create (or create well). Your images should say: “in this world of digital technology, it’s unbelievable images like this that keeps me hopelessly attached to the magic of film.”
2. Send us tips, tricks, thoughts, insights, and arguments for the film vs. digital debate. Why do you feel that film is the greatest thing since sliced cheese?

And what’s in it for you:
1. If one or more of your photos are accepted for the exhibition, you’ll receive 10 piggypoints to spend in our online shop. If and when they are published in a book, you’ll be given another 25 piggies then.
2. 100 free tickets to Photokina will be raffled off to those who upload accepted images. If you can’t make the show, then we’ll give you another 10 piggies instead.
3. Your name and image will be shown in a seriously prestigious art exhibition.
4. The most active uploader (lots of photos, lots of great comments) will receive a free Horizon Kompakt camera. The 10 runners-up to this title will each get a free Fisheye 2 camera. Huzzah!

Get going: the deadline for this Rumble is 08/28/06. In approximately 2 weeks, we’ll use this scatter-shot information to craft a more detailed survey and questionnaire around the advantages and unique nature of analog photography.
