Time for enlightenment: As we, the Lomographic Society, keep getting lots of queries about the Lomography visuals we'd like to project a little more light, as it were, on our VJ's (the licensed Vienna based projections experts) performances. It is our sacred mission to draw on millions of wild, rapid, delicate, energetic, armpit-sweat-niffy and cherry-blossom-smelling, sexy snapshots from the dust-crusted archives of Lomographers all over the world. And then to present them onto vast surfaces in grand live shows with dozens of projectors controlled by the most subtle of twitches from our VJ's tender hands at the controls of tonnes of technical apparatus as they ride the riffs and beats of the 21st century. We thrive off Lomographic images from the vast WorldArchive at the Vienna Headquarters or digitized Lomographs from the daily growing online archive.
These images form the basis of LomographyVisuals. The projection software localises the sharpest of the masterpieces and the VJs whirl this mix of raw material onto the inner skin of a party cell in perfect tune to the latest sounds. They blast them in the brightest light of the projectors at the clubs, festivals, museums and other excellent lively or abandoned locations around the world. What we don't do is psychedelic virtual rainbow rhubarb courtesy of WinAmp. That made clear, though, what we do do well is real life, wild people and animals, wired places and situations from upside-down positions – the sex & drugs & rock 'n' roll of snapshots, the experiences of, and shot by, people like you and me! Theme-specific work is a key concept for the Lomography VJs performance. Each event is unique, every live show is worked out afresh with a specific theme, for which we cast the wildest and most accurate images. We can mobilise the Lomographers of the world via the Internet, and set them the challenge of shooting thousands of photographs quickly on almost any theme required. So our Lomography VJs can react with enough flexibility to actually turn up TODAY at YOUR party, regardless of whether it's in Taiwan or Santiago de Chile.
The Lomography VJs use digital and analogue technology either separately or in combination, depending on the space as the projections respond to it, melt into it. They use several projection surfaces, screens of different formats, and the spatial concept is developed for each event with the Lomography architecture team. The audio and the visual levels are coordinated to form a synthesis; both the digital video image as well as the slide projections react to the music, the software used can produce an almost unlimited number of different patterns. The result being a visual manifestation of the music. The Lomography VJs work closely with different DJs on an international basis to conceive packed all-night events and clubbing sessions, and to present enthralling visual worlds and get people shaking. The concept for the contents and aesthetics employed by the Lomography VJs has been tried and tested with great success over the course of numerous Lomography projects and invitations to international festivals: Sonar/ Festival for Advanced Music in Barcelona (2000, 2001, 2002), Exit Festival Creteil (2003), Designer Bloque in Tokyo (2001), Photokina in Cologne, (1998, 2000), Kunsthalle Wien (2002) and at many clubs and galleries in New York, Oslo, Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Vienna, Milan , Zurich, Berlin, Amsterdam, Cairo, Lisbon etc. We would love to show you more! If you want to know more about the world of Lomography Visual performances and the Lomography VJs visit the NEW WEBSITE www.lomography.com/vjs or contact us at spindoctor@lomography.com Intelligent, talented, athletic, good looking, popular? Yes? Oh, you're so vain! Show us haughty prima donnas, big-headed attention-grabbers, party-strutters, pedicured poodles, richkidz and all other forms of excess pride in the name of Lomo. And: Mission image submissions are not only to be shown online from here in, but also regularly worked into the production of visuals. From now on the given mission theme is also always a major part of the content in events with Lomography Visuals. www.lomography.com/vjs Our fond congratulations go out to ddrr. Thanks for your image and enjoy your prize! Sometimes a blurry shot is just blurry, but other times it is pure and absolute brilliance. Our crew of dancers are frozen-yet-still-shaking in their non stop routine, and their white stage has become a smoke cloud worthy of a true 70's Kiss concert. Stunning! The Runners Up:
