The most visionary, the most philosophical, the most air-headed lomographic challenge of the year: an invitation to all Lomographers to design their ultimate greenspace, and to provide a grandiloquent manifesto for it in the form of 6 images, one to each of the GO BEYOND themes. The complete greenspace Lomography work is to be presented at the greenspace Valencia Festival in Spain from 24–29 October 2005.

The title is simply 'greenspace', and it's all about moving beyond the comfort zone, away from the sites that you know so well, and away from the familiar and trusted places where your responses are automatic and surprises are seldom. It's about moving away from the places where the things you do are routine, where your role is defined and rarely changes. What when you move onto the level of the funkiest Fata Morgana, and make your own ideal living environment manifest itself in an incredible world with shapes and forms all of its own? No politically subversive thinking, no senseless nagging, no clichéd make-the-world-a-better-place proposals or destructive boredom. Nope. We want real images.

Go beyond. Cast an eye on the other side of things. Reconsider notions of material, artificial, authentic and mythical constructions. Blur the lines of data and the borders on the maps, put a line through all the familiar time curves. Invent a piece of life, define your own greenspace. What is it made of, what are the governing elements or dominant creatures like, its characteristics? How is it linked to the world? Where are those otherwise unsuitable places you so deeply yearn for? Where does your mind's eye see the spirits and the bodies? What shapes and forms its virtual and tangible dimensions?

Take a moment, a couple of like-minded folk or a complete landscape and explore it beyond everything, sample your heavenly site – make your own greenspace and show it in 6 images, one for each of the GO BEYOND themes (Colour, Identity, Control, Love, Words & Space). Play your part in designing a vast greenspace with Lomography.
greenspace by Heineken is an extensive new culture programme offering an interactive platform for ideas and concepts for creative and visionary people from all over the world in the fields of photography/film, design and music. At the same time, social connections are to be a key factor and derelict urban spaces are going to be recreated as cultural facilities. The key concept is GO BEYOND, and the search is on for ideas that push the boundaries of the imagination, for a world with innumerable individual greenspaces both small and large.

The work is to be presented at a major event in Valencia from 24–29 October 2005, to be held in 3 enormous warehouses in Valencia harbour. Each of the disciplines is contributing to the exhibition, the workshops and the live music events, and each participant is helping to form the first greenspace project. This event marks the start of the clean-up and renovation of the warehouses, which are subsequently to be used as a culture centre and venue for projects in Valencia. Throughout 2006 the warehouses will be restored and modernised to provide facilities for creative use and cultural events. In early 2007 they will reopen to become a permanent home for new creative ideas that will continue to push boundaries for years to come.

The Valencia event features a large LomoWall, the greenspaceLomographyContainer, comprising all of the entries from around the world. Daily Lomography City-Hunts also provide an opportunity to explore this beautiful city on the ocean with a Lomographic Challenge, and to contribute images for the daily live Lomography VJ's presentations during the festival. Needless to say, the greenspace LomoWall is planned to be just the beginning - ever-growing with each new greenspace project in the future. After all… greenspaces have to evolve, to change and develop.
During the summer ahead Singapore, Buenos Aires and London are to host special offline pre-events for the Valencia happening, with a one-day greenspace Lomography challenge in each city followed by a superb party. The visual output of the event is to be judged at the Lomography HQ in Vienna, to find each of the three greenspace Lomography City Winners. All of the photographs submitted will be presented in October in the greenspaceLomographyContainer.

All images submitted will be shown in the online gallery as well as at the great LomographyContainer for the greenspace festival in Valencia this October. But of course it wouldn't be a truly nifty Lomography challenge if there were no 'best of the best' selections: The winners (from among all the greenspace Lomography participants in the international online competition and the city-hunts in London, Singapore und Buenos Aires) will all be showered with excellent prizes and honours for the coming greenspace Lomography projects – the greenspace Lomography star wins a roundtrip flight for two people from their home country to Valencia, including 3 nights accommodation during the festival.
