The Cook, his Friends, the Feast and the Lomographers

The big “Festkochen" (German for: cooking feast, cooking firmly, cooking a good deal) is all but an ordinary cooking competition: In cooperation with FM4, one of our favourite radio stations, we are looking for the most incredible Austrian cooking maniacs, most visionary recipes and the wackiest ideas for a special dinner party at home.

The three best entries of each of the seven categories “old school, spicy, quickie, love, royal, free and global” for the dinner and party concepts will be selected by an exclusive experts jury after evaluating carefully their creations of unique culinary delights as well as the artistic over-all design of the space and its atmospheric aspects. 21 candidates receive a formidable budget to put their ideas into action.

The cooking parties are to take place during the summer months all over Austria hosted by the cook, his friends and the Lomographers, and will be documented vastly with lots of lomographic equipment in order to lomographically decrypt the cooking, eating and partying process. All parties will be presented online; Lomographers and the FM4 audience will then select the winning chefs of each category who shall compete against each other at the grand finale cooking showdown in a Viennese restaurant in September 2003, a simultaneous cook-in for 50 guests who are being spoilt for choice to nominate the best of the best.

Following the award ceremony for the big Austrian cooking star the project will be perpetuated in a nifty Lomographic “Festkochen” publication including the terrific winners’ recipes as well as massive quantities of stories and images of the cooking parties.

  Nichijo Seikatsu PhotoBook in Japan

Since Lomography has been introduced to Japan, it has provided many creators and artists with a whole range of new perspectives. The Nichijo Seikatsu photo-book, a project initiated and produced by Nippon-Camera Co., is based on an extremely simple concept, approaching the artists’ interaction with Lomography. 16 famous artists captured their personal favorite scenes with Lomographic cameras; text, poems and interviews are included in the book as well.

Lomographic Exhibitions: Sergio, Terry and Lola alias Lomo

Barcelona and Cardiff, both hosting two fine Lomographic exhibitions these days. In Barcelona 74 big-print Lomographs shot by artist Sergio Fernández with a variety of Lomographic cameras are exhibited up to June 13, 2003 in a great location, a jolly old edifice renovated by Spanish designer Mariscal.

Or, if you happen to be near Cardiff in Wales, drop by the IntroLomo exhibition organized by Terry and showing Lomographs from Wales and South-West England. Make sure not to miss the LomoParty on June 20, 2003 in the Moloko Vodka Bar!

Toronto is hosting the third exhibition we can recommend. Inspired by Tom Tykwer’s action film “Run Lola Run” and his thematic use of time, space and speed, Lomographic artists in run.lomo.run instrumentalize their Lomographic cameras in order to prove the viability of being analog in a digital heavy world. Run.lomo.run is still on until mid-June.

Colorsplash Movement Evolving

7,000,000 colors can be seen by the human eye. Up until this very day, mother nature has called the shots as to how these colors are distributed. She said that bananas must be yellow, grass must be green, and oranges must be orange. We Lomographers find these restrictions simply too binding to accept, and have thus decided to announce our independence from nature's choices, hereby being free to splash her with whatever colors we see fit. To this effect, we have developed two brand-spanking-new Colorsplash products with which to facilitate the revolution.

10 Colorsplash testers representing a super-talented, cross-section of our global community were selected and will over the next several weeks receive an advance test prototype of our top-secret Colorsplash products, along with marching orders to photograph everything possible, manipulate the colors around them according to their will, take no shorts or second-bests, and upload their finest shots for the lomographic community to see.
